Packaging is a significant component in the presentation of a product. Competitive edge can be gained through unique product application and aesthetics. Novel packaging concepts require research and development on components or on entire systems. Heat sealable packaging films were made up of multiple layers. Testing of commercial films did not result in a film that would survive thermal aging and shipping tests. Research and development was required to create films that inhibited migration of components within the liquid encapsulants through the film resulting in film delamination or rupture. Resultant packaging systems are still in use today.
